The Anita Garibaldi Promenade with the Gropallo Tower (16th century) and tourists walking in springtime, Nervi, Genoa, Liguria, Italy

The Gropallo tower, formerly known as the Hay tower because of wet hay that was burned on top to produce smoke and signal danger, takes its name from the marquis Gaetano Gropallo, who bought it in the mid-nineteenth century. The construction of the tower dates back to the mid-sixteenth century, and was part of the defensive system built because of the intensification of attacks by the corsairs of Dragut, but over the centuries has been modified and restored several times.
