A Chinese rhinoceros horn cup (lotus bouquet cup) 18th century. Openwork cup of caramel- to amber-coloured rhinoceros horn in the shape of a bouquet of lotus leaves, blossoms, arrowhead and millet stalks. The lip of the cup decorated with two crawling chi dragons, a third one clambering down the lotus leaf which forms the bowl of the cup. Height 14 cm. The central theme of a bouquet cup certainly is the lotus flower as a symbol of good fortune and purity.
