The National Road was the first federal Interstate road called the Main Street of America ran from Maryland through Illinois in the early 1800s Remnants of the road are now tourist attractions along US 40 such as the Huddleston Farmhouse Inn in Cambridge City IN where pioneers stayed when traveling the road.
