From California this department has re-ceived a School Manual containing, amongother valuable hints to teachers and scholars,two independent lists of fifty books, or authors,chosen for young readers, and recommendedto trustees buying books for school first list was selected by the teachers ofRiverside County at a meeting held in 1899,and included many of the books already givenin the St. Nicholas lists. There were, how-ever, some new titles, such as Jane AndrewssSeven Little Sister
