In con-nection with buying, he dealt for sometime with the subject of bankrupt stocks,and co-operation as applied to freights,merchants joining in making up car lotsfor goods coming in, and for producegoing out. As regards selling they could co-oper-ate by arranging special sales so as notto overlap; on giving credit, they couldagree on the amount of discount to beallowed, on the time to allow their cus-. A. Much interest was shown in what had to say on deliveries, asregards goods being sent out on ap-proval, using separate routes, and allow-ing a special discount to customers whocarried their own parcels home. Having only half an hour to deal withthis subject, Mr. Chevrier did not at-tempt to lecture on any one branch ofco-operation, merely indicating to hishearers in how many ways they mightco-operate with one another to avoidunnecessary losses, and help towardsbuilding up the community. During hisdiscourse he remarked how often, espe-cially in the United States, merchants ina town had started in by cutting one an-others throats, and had eventually cometo realize that it did not pay.
