If it becomeevident that the tu-mor has involved thewalls of the adjacentlarge vessels, a ligatureabove, another belowthe growth, will per-mit of a safe and com-plete exsection in onemass of the tumor andthe diseased parts ofthe Fig. —Flap incision for removal of tumor of neck, drained and sutured. Wound Note.—It is the common tendency of young surgeons to carry too far the dissection ofa vessel adhering to a tumor. This is actuated by the desire of preserving the integrity of the vessel in question, and by the natural disinclinationof complicating the operation by double ligature, which again involves extra dissection. The con-sequence of thistendency may betwofold : eitherportions of thetumor adheringto the vessel wallare left behind tocause speedy re-lai)se, or the veinis cut or torn.
