Everyday more than 5,000 men, women, and child stone-laborers work laborers who work there are risking to collect stones under water. With mainly children as laborers, they are dipped into the cold water to collect stones, thus risking their health. For this reason, some laborers are suffering from Pneumonia, common cold, and other respiratory diseases which makes it a high risk situation for children and for adults with weak immune system. On the side of the river, people are waiting to buy stone after the laborers collect them. One boat full of stones is selling for about 2,000 Taka. Each laborer earn only a little which sometimes is not enough for their daily needs. Ironically, rich people's houses are built from these stones. (Photo by Mohammad Asad/Pacific Press)
