Salvador da Bahia is the capital of the northeastern brazilian state Bahia. It was the first capital of the portuguese colonial empire in Brazil. Portuguese discoverer Pedro Alvaro Cabral landed in 1500 at the nearby coast at Santa Cruz da Cabralia and started the colonizing of Brazil.
