Only skill and a degree of fearlessness allows a surfer to tackle a winter wave as steep and dangerous as this one at Deadmans near Manly. Most Australian beaches can be dangerous places for visitors and tourist. In order to prevent loss of through drowning many Surf clubs train and maintain teams of lifesavers to patrol and advise beachgoers.
