General Silas Casey


Silas Casey (1807-1882) was a West Point graduate and United States Army officer with the Union forces and attained the rank of Major General during the Civil War. He was 54 when the war began. He fought with General Worth at Florida in the Seminole War and under Scott at Mexico and had fought Native Americans on the Pacific Coast. This photo dates to 1862, at the time he fought at the Battle of Fair Oaks. The Confederates took his camp before support could reach him.
