Ohio Infantry Regiment Marker on Shiloh National Military Park

Carved stone monument marking the position of one of the Ohio Infantry regiments at Shiloh National Military Park. The battle of Shiloh occurred April 6 and 7, 1862, on the Tennessee River at Pittsburg Landing, near Savannah, Tennessee, between the Union forces of Ulysses S. Grant and Don Carlos Buell and the Confederate forces of Albert Sidney Johnston. Johnston was killed on the first day of battle and command of the Confederate forces passed to Pierre Gustave Beauregard. Although severely mauled on the first day Grant was reinforced on the evening of the 6th and counterattacked the next day driving the Confederates from the battlefield.
