Apple rust . ut the cedars from 205 acres at this place. The next locality where work was done is in FallingWaters District around the orchards of Mr. George Ryneal, cedar trees here were all large, running from twenty tothirty feet in height. Most of them were located on the rivercliff, and in with other timber. Owing to the fact that theground is quite high at this point the spores from these treeswould blow over a very large area, making it particularly im-portant to have them removed. Twenty-five acres of thisland had the cedars scattered along fence rows and on rockbreaks. More than half of the trees have been cut by theowner without any help from the state whatsoever. This manalso helped when we were cutting in that have been about 65 acres cleared of cedars at this the first 25 acres four men were employed ten days andwere paid per day. On the remaining 40 acres five menwere used for six days, four at , and one at , makinga total of 66 AY. Va. Agrl. Experiment Station [Bul. 154] At Ridgeway we did some cutting around the Clohanorchards which are about a mile from the station. On onefarm we cleared out a thicket composed almost entirely ofcedars. These trees were very tall and straight and in orderto get them cut we had to trim them into poles and pile thebrush. One of thesemen received $, another $ and the other two men$ each per day. This makes a total of $ to finish thework at that place. The cedars were also destroyed on about 100 acres closearound this orchard. The trees here were from fifteen totwenty feet in height and located along the fences. On thisthere were five men emplo
