Heconveyed the mill to his son Elisha, May 19, latter supplied the British army with flour,which was conveyed within its lines on a sloopcalled the Millers Damsel. Because of this hewas condemned by the .\merican patriots as a tory,and his property confiscated. He was driven awayfrom Greenwich, but returned in 1802 and purchasedthe mill from the heirs of his brother, and this inturn descended to his son Silas. Elisha Davis, born 1737, died in Greenwich, March29, 1813. His wife was named Anna, and their sonSilas married Maria Benson, of Haverstraw, NewYork. They were the parents of Emmeline J. Davis,wife of Hevlvn Benson, as ^^^^^>*y SOUTHERN NEW YORK 1447 Milling Company. He resigned from thatcompany to go with the American TobaccoCompany, with which he continued for aperiod of eighteen years, rising to the positionof manager of its New York depot. He re-signed this position in June, 1913, due to thedissolution of this company by order of theSupreme Court. He served in the NinthCompany of the Seventh Regiment, N. G. Y., from June 10, 1892, to June 17, was a member of the Seventh Regiment\eteran Club during its existence, and alsoa member of The Strollers, during the ex-istence of that prominent and exclusiveamateur theatrical club of New York has been an earnest devotee of the opera,having his seat for many seasons in the Metro-politan Opera Club box. Mr. Benson is amember of the Holland Society
