Captain Charles Otis, 21st Cavalry, New York Volunteers, provided this item for display at the Albany Relief Bazaar, Albany, New York, February 1864. After an unsuccessful raid upon Harper’s Ferry, Virginia, in July 1859, authorities confined the radical abolitionist John Brown in Charles Town, Virginia, from October 18-December 2, 1859.
