Overview of the town of Belves in the Perigord Noir/Dordogne region of France. It is built on the site of a Gallo Roman castrum (fort) One of the oldest buildings in the town is the Bell Tower, which dates from the 11th century. The town is on a limestone promontory - the reason for the Roman castrum. Today it is a popular tourist spot with a number of cafes and restaurants. Many of the visitors are from Britain, some, no doubt, attracted by the town featuring on a recent TV programme. As can be seen in this image the houses and buildings of the old town are close together.
