High speed Motor Gunboat 81, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth Harbour.
MGB 81 s design was produced by the British Power Boat Company (BPB) in collaboration with the Admiratly and, in all, 105 of her type were built (including some which were completed as motor torpedo boats). When built, they were among the fastest boats of their type in the world. It saw action in WWII where she was stationed at RAF Calshot during the Battle of Britain, retrieving shot down airmen from the sea. Throughout the duration of the war, HSL vessels saved a total of 10,000 airmen of many nationalities.
