He married Hannah Bow-man, born July 3. 1787, and was a life-long resi-dent of Manchester. She became the mother offour children : Mercy, Hannah, William and John. John Townend, son of John and Hannah(Bowman) Townend was educated in Manches-ter, England, where he began at an early age tolearn the shoe business. John Townendmarried Ann Cowan, who was born in Manches-ter, November 7, 1810, daughter of Christopherand Martha (Henderson) Cowan, the former awell known lawyer of that city in his day. (Cowan) Townend died in Wyoming Au-gust 29, 1877. She was the mother of eight chil-dren: 1. William, born Manchester, April 7, John, born Manchester, September 3, 1839,died in infancy. 3.
