We also ?wish to heat two rooms in our resi- dence with the same boiler; the rooms are each 14x15. The boiler room will be connected to the house. How large a boiler will be required? Please give your idea as to the piping of the greenhouse. We can sink the boiler to any depth that is necessary. T. E. G. It makes little difference whether the house runs east and west or north and south, and if it would be any more sheltered if it funs east and west I would certainly locate it that way. A steam heating system is cheaper in first cost, but it requires more atten- tion than a hot water system and, especially for small houses, will be found less economical. In most cases hot water is used for less than 1,000 square feet of radiation. The 2-inch pipe could be used for a part of the returns in a hot water plant, but while they might be used in a steam heating plant I would prefer 1^4-inch pipe for the coils. The greenhouse will require about 900 square feet of hot water radiation, and the two rooms in the dwelling will take about 100 square feet more, though the exact amount will depend upon the area of window surface and exposed wall, as well as the tempera- ture desired. It is always advisable to have considerable surplus capacity in a boiler and I would select one with a rating of 1,250 to 1,400 square feet of hot water radiation. To heat
