A Kubasaki High School Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet models the uniform worn by the female Marines who fought in the World War II during a Marine Corps birthday uniform pageant Nov. 8 aboard Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan. In 1918, Pvt. Opha May Johnson became the first woman to enlist in the Marine Corps. Female Marines have served alongside their male counterparts ever since, playing a vital role in throughout history.
