The annual has asmaller, more woodyroot than the bien-nial form, and crownor resting buds arenot formed. () The stems,branches, leaves,flowers, pods, andseeds are indistin-guishable from those of the biennial form, but during the season of seed-ing the plant grows more rapidly, blossoms, fruits, and dies. The seed of annual white sweet clover that has been sold so far andmost of that on the market during 1920 was produced from the Iowastrain. During the summer of 1920, however, interest in this varietywas aroused in Alabama, in Hale and Perry Counties, where it occurswith the biennial form, and some seed from that source will doubt-less be on the market later. It is not possible at present to place any limit on the range in whichannual white sweet clover may be growing wild. It has been foundchiefly in Alabama, but is also present in natural wild growths ofMelilotus alha about Washington, D. C. In waste places near thePotomac River in Virginia, just outside of Washington, there areconsiderable areas used as dumping places for
