Same applied. of spinal brace may be adjusted and the patient allowed to go of confining the patient upon an ordinary bed the surgeon mayhave him bound by straps and bandages to a frame. This may thenbe lifted off the ordinary bed when it is desired to carry the patientinto the open air. The best support for walking cases is the plaster of Paris jacketadapted to the trunk while the patient is suspended vertically or laidhorizontally. This prevents bending of the spine at the seat of dis-ease. If the disease is high up in the dorsal region or in the cervicalregion, it is necessary to support the head by means of a jury-mast at-tached to the plaster of Paris jacket or splint. Instead of making thespinal jacket or support of plaster of Paris bandages, a mould of thechilds trunk may be made and from it a neater, though more expen-sive, spinal support may be constructed of leather or some similarplastic
