Roentgen diagnosis of diseases of the head . over the left supraorbital region, accompanied by a protrusion of the lefteye. Quite recently there had occurred a diminution in vision. The roentgenogram showed a mass of bone of spongy character 80 , 165 mm. long, and 135 mm. broad, located on the vertex, and taper-ing off toward the thickened bone of the lateral portions of the this there was a hemispherical mass of bone, 30 mm. long, lyingsagitally on the skull base, in the region of the left half of the planumsphenoidale. This latter mass of bone caused an increase in intracranialpressure, signs of which were discernible in the deepened impressions onthe inner surface of the skull. It also caused the protrusion of the lefteye with compression of the ocular nerves. (See Figs. 27 and 28.) Rc-peated operations and finally the postmortem verified the roentgen case is described in detail in the authors Atlas der Sdhddelbasis, ]>.58. It was later discussed by von Eiselsber-. DISEASES OF THE SKULL 137. Fig. 27.—Dextrosinistral picture of a tumor-like hyperostosis of the vault and baseof the skull of the patient discussed in Case 5. All of the hyperostosis of the vaultdoes not appear on the plate.
