A Moreno Dancer in Oruro Carnival, Bolivia


Oruro carnival. La Morenada. Oruro was a ceremonial centre from prehispanic times. Plays on the fight between good and evil from an old dance and artisans make masks for it. From the first time the fight between archangel Saint Gabriel and devils representing the seven deadly sins, the people called it ´Diablada´. Oruro carnival has been declared Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Parades go for 7 Km at 4000 meters of altitude.
