Split-level photo of a school of big-eye trevally underwater, with the shore, palm trees, and blue sky above water. Tulamben, Bali, Indonesia.
Big-Eye Trevally (Caranx sexfasciatus) are often seen in swirling schools above the Liberty Wreck in Bali, Indonesia. The wreck is very busy with divers and photographers, which i wanted to avoid, so on a calm morning i attempted one of my first 'split-level' shots, and spent about 30minutes after the dive on the surface trying to get the shot without divers, snorkellers, or bubbles in the frame. The challenge was to get the shot without water droplets on the dome port of the camera housing, and It was also quite frustrating positioning the strobes, since my strobe arms were quite short.
