St George and the Dragon.

St George and the Dragon after a painting by Briton Riviere from King Albert's Book, published 1915. Here St George is asleep and his horse appears to be dead. Probably he represents a sleeping Belgium or perhaps a slumbering Europe. The dragon appears to have killed his horse. The dragon represents the German invader. But, of course, St George will awake and repel or kill the dragon. Iconographic propaganda.
