They catch their food onthe wing also, and it is a treat to watchthem feeding. I was out with a guide once,and expressed the wish to see the Kites atcloser range. He said that was easy, andset fire to a cabbage-palmetto that had onit an abundance of dead vines and manydead fans. It was a quiet day and thesmoke rose very high.
