Head twice as long as broad : snout rounded, scarcely projecting beyond mouth, as long as or a little longer than eye, which is 3 (young) to 4-£ times in length of head; interorbital width 2| to 3 times in length of head; mouth extending to below anterior border or anterior third of eye ; no barbels; naked space between prseoperculum and suborbitals nearly equal to width of latter; posterior border of second suborbital below centre of eye. Gill-rakers few and short. Dorsal II—III 8-9, originating at equal distance from centre or posterior border of eye and from root of caudal, posterior half of its base above anal; anterior rays longest, -| to f length of head. Anal III 12-14, notched, produced into.
