Ma Zu - original name Lin Mo Niang is worshipped as the Goddess of the Sea, who can ensure the safety of those travelling across them. Born in 960 AD she saved her father from a storm at sea and bought her brothers body back for a proper burial. Her official title is Mother of Heavenly Sage.
