Visitors to Astroland in Coney Island in the Brooklyn borough of New York enjoy the rides and other features on the amusement park s last day of operation Sunday September 7 2008 Carol Albert the owner of the park has permanently closed it s doors after giving up on negotiating a lease agreement with Thor Equities the developer that owns the property The three acre park opened in 1962 and had 23 rides and three arcades The Cyclone roller coaster also part of Astroland is a landmark and will remain opening for business again in April 2009 Frances M Roberts
