The cold wcatlicr had l<ept many away, but the assembled crowd had a good time and lively discus- sions about ditTcrent things took place. It is a long time since such good resolu- tions were passed. A bunch of carna- tions from the Chicago Carnation Co. was received and as no name was at- tached we all guessed them to be Aristo- crat. Our brother Kuhnke had a carna- tion seedling which, as far as color is concerned, promises to pan out a good commercial scarlet. What Kuhnke will christen it is hard to tell, as he has a way of changing his mind like a sweet sixteen. The next meeting is to be a Special carnation meeting, connected with an exhibition of the best our local grow- ers can produce of the "divine ; We to have a big crowd in at- tendance and invitations will be sent to all nearby florists to show up personally. All report business as good, but flowers very scarce. Their opinion about the weather I really dare not write. We have noted three sunny days since Octo- ber 20, and relief is not yet in sight. NOTES. The Perennial Gardens Co. have their new plant now in full working order; thev have installed an electric circulator with their Kroeschell boiler and are pleased at the result. The new pink Baby Rambler (Annie Muller) and the new Salvia Zurich will be their special- ties this spring. Our market gardeners are starting in very early to build. David Johnson will erect two houses, 40 x 200, for lettuce; enough lettuce and cucumbers are grown here to supply all large towns for 100 miles around. S^ L.
