Adam Carlyle, thesubject of this biography, was born in 1626, and is treated ashaving been the founder of the Annan family of Carlyles. Verylittle is known of his life, except that he was a landed pro-prietor, and was a baillie (or alderman) of Annan, Dumfries-shire. He married Janet Muirhead, who died on 25 February,1671, and was buried in Annan Churchyard.
