It is also worth re-cording, as evidence of his early proficiency as anexecutant, that he was engaged by Leighton toassist in the painting of the Daphnephoria, and byH. T. Wells to do similar work on the canvases ofthat fashionable portrait painter. Mr. Cotmans career as a student was markedby many successes.
