Hon. CHARLES P. STURTEVANT. DISTRICT NO. 11. Hon. Charles P. Sturtevant of East Lyme,Republican Senator from the Eleventh District,was a member of the House during the sessionof 1878, and has held nearly all the offices in thegift of his townsmen during the past ten is engaged in the woolen manufacturing busi-ness, and holds the position of agent and secre-tary of the Niantic Mills company. He is a manof fine executive ability and is a valued memberof the Senate. His experience in the House has made him familiar with methods of legislation,and in the wider field to which he has beenchosen has represented them with credit andhonor. Senator Sturtevant was born in NewYork city, in 1844, and received an academic ed-ucation. He is the only son of Hon. A. P. Stur-tevant of Norwich,one of the millionaire Manufac-turers of this State. He has resided at EastLyme for a number of years, and is prominentlyassociated with New London county interests. G5. Hon. OLIVER HOYT. DISTRICT NO. 12. Hon. Oliver Hoyt of Stamford, RepublicanSenator from the Twelfth District, has beenelected a member of the Senate for three con-secutive terms, during two of which he has heldthe position of president pro tempore. As Chair-man of the Committee on Humane Institutionshe has exhibited the greatest fairness and con-sideration, and has looked carefully after the in-terests of the State and the expenditures of thepublic funds. In 1878 he was Chairman of theJoint Special Committee on Federal Relations,and also of the Committee on State Expenditures,serving with notable ability and discriminationon the latter. Senator Hoyts business trainingfitted him for the work of the State ExpenditureCommittee, and throughout the session he laboredwith indefatigable zeal for the public 18
