21/05/21 Hillary Ollesan replaces the red silk ribbon holding pages to the cover on a testimonial of thanks from his parishioners to the Rev. W R Cripps published in 1874. Book conservators return to the painstaking work of repairing ancient books at Bromley House Library in Nottingham. Full story here: The private library, which could be taken from the set of Harry Potter, was founded exactly 200 years ago. It is one of the few remaining subscription libraries in the country and is spread over three floors in a city centre Georgian town house. A conservator for fifteen years, retired musician, Hillary Ollesan (73), returned with two other volunteers to continue with book preservation today. ÒWe had stopped completely because of Covid. There were about 30 of us before. WeÕre working socially-distanced now so threeÕs all we can manage in this space at a time. WeÕre a bit rusty and just getting back into the groove.Ó she said. The conservators are all trained by and volunteer for the Arts Society. ÒWeÕre all from the Nottingham branch.
