Tliis method of air-drying has been adopted by the Departmentof .Mines and the Department of Customs and Excise at OttawaTims, in Bulletin 2814 of the Department of Customs and Excise,Lignite and Lignitic Coals are defined, for purposes of Customs,as having not less than <*», moisture content after being air-driedaccording t the method described above. Work is in progress with regard to methods for determiningthe total moisture in coal, and l«> ascertain the effect of variationsfrom the standard procedure. Work is also in progress to find out the variations in the watercontent weekthroughout a whole year. A sample has been taken each weeksince June 5th, L923, from the slack coal delivered to the UniversityPower House. The
