American steam locomotive. Steam locomotive on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This railway track runs between the stations of Silverton and Durango in Colorado, USA. It was originally a mine railway when it opened in the 1880s. An extension of a longer railway that no longer exists, this section has been operating continuously since 1881. It has been a dedicated heritage railroad since 1981. This is a Denver and Rio Grande Western K-36 class, designated number 480, built in 1925, retired in 1970 and used on this railraod from 1981.
