Stems commonly pubescent in lines and nodding at the apex; leaves oblong or narrowly ovate, entire or nearly so, obtuse at the apex, narrowed at the base into a short petiole, S"-lo" long, ii"-2i" wide; flowers few, axillary, clus- tered at the apex, pink or violet-purple, nodding, about 2i" broad; stigma entire; capsule slender-peduncled, glabrous, purplish, about i' long, i" wide; seeds smooth, short-beaked, about ¥' long; coma dingy-white. Labrador, Quebec, and through arctic America to Alaska, south in the Rocky Mountains to Nevada. Recorded from the mountains of New York and New England. Europe and Asia. Summer. Also in ;.
