This is a disease that goes through hos-pital nurseries like wildfire when once itgets a foothold. In some epidemics as manyas three fourths of the babies in a hospitalhave become sick, and as many as one thirdof the infected ones have died. Nor is thetoll confined to that reported in the parents take home a baby thatappears perfectly well, only to have thesymptoms appear after a few days, perhapswith fatal consequences. Worst of all, epidemic diarrhea is on theincrease, as a result of crowding in hospi-tal nurseries. It is high time we drop thehush-hush that has surrounded these epi-demics and make a vigorous attempt tostop the pitiful and quite unnecessary in-fant deaths which result.
