Statue of Richard Hooker 1556-1600 AD, Exeter, Devon, UK

Standing in Exeter Cathedral Yard, Exeter, Devon, UK; carved out of white 'pentilicon' marble, and unveiled in 1907, the statue is of Richard Hooker, considered by some to be the 'father of Anglicanism'. His teaching was that the church should take a middle way, and not be too puritanical. His work 'Of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity', is reputed to have laid the foundations of modern day Anglican Church. The Church of England Synod still refers to Hooker's writings when considering the doctrine of the church.
