Aleshund, With ships in port seen from Now rich again from North Sea oil was destroyed by fire in 1904.
The town of Alesund a mixture of earlier small towns which were combined into the town of Aleshund around the beginning of the 19th century. The Aleshund port authority was set up in 1838. The fire that completely destroyed the town, of wooden houses happened on 23rd Jan 1904, the town was reconstructed in stone, brick mainly with help from Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. It can be viewed from Mt Aksla. There is the mystery of the 4th century shipwreck,built in the iron age and with an oak rudder, it was discovered in 1920. The recent oil strike the town is rich again.
