A late 19th Century illustration of one of the Battery, formerly known as Battery Park, a 25-acre public park located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island in New York City facing New York Harbour. The park and surrounding area is named after the artillery batteries that were built in the late 17th century to protect the settlement behind them. The park contains attractions such as an early 19th century fort named Castle Clinton, many monuments and the SeaGlass Carousel.
