Men stand in front of a demolished house in Sasimwani, within the Mau Forest area. Hundreds of people from the Ogiek Community have been left homeless and in biting cold after the Government of Kenya embarked on an eviction exercise to remove alleged encroachers of Mau Forest. A statement by Ogiek People’s Development Program (OPDP) said that the eviction of forest communities violates their human rights and called on the government to immediately halt the exercise.
