Berlin Topography of Terror indoor and outdoor museum & memorial and Martin Gropius building, Martin-Gropius Bau art gallery


The Topography of Terror is an indoor and outdoor museum in Berlin on the site of the headquarters of the Nazi Regime SS and Gestapo (1933-1945). The buildings were mostly destroyed by Allied bombing but the cellar of the Gestapo headquarters was excavated and turned into an open air memorial and museum. The nearby Documentation Centre and Exhibition hall was designed by architect, Ursula Wilms and landscape architect, Heinz W Hallman. It was completed and opened in 2010 The Martin-Gropius-Bau (Martin Gropius Building) was built in 1881 as a royal art museum. The Martin-Gropius-Bau hosts approximately 10 major exhibitions each year in the fields of art, archaeology, photography and cultural history.
