I have therefore prepared the following:— Branchlets dark purple-black, pale fugaceous-tomentosetowards the ends. Leaves oblong or elliptic-oblong, apexblunt, acute, or subacuminate (but frequently damaged),base equal to markedly unequal and cuneate to cordate,usually about cm. X cm. but varying between wide Gardens Bulletin, Gard. Bull. S. S., Vol. VIII. Plate XX. Hopea qniiiimii Helferi (Dyer) Brandis 275 limits, coriaceous, yellow- or light red-brown, glabrousabove, pale yellow or silvery (densely minutely lepidote)beneath; midrib slightly depressed above, strongly elevatestriate fugaceous-tomentose beneath; main nerves about 13to 17 pairs, usually inconspicuous above, elevate beneath;nervules joining the main nerves in numerous, more or lessparallel, lines, conspicuous only on the lower surface;reticulations minute; petioles cm., thick, rugose,channeled above, black, glabrous when old; stipules linear,caducous (seen only on immature specimens). Paniclesaxillary and terminal, racemose, when mature about as longas the leaves, pale tomentose; ultimate branchlets mm. apart, cm. long, each bearing 4 to 12 secundflowers; bractioles small, caducous. Flowers about , subovate in bud, about mm. long (including thepedicel) ; pedicel about mm. long, sericeous tom
