It originally having been received from the Department of Science and Agriculture, Georgetown, De- merara, British Guiana, without specific or varietal name, simply being labelled "Crimson Bougainvillea," someone for identifica- tion called it "Crimson Lake "which name is at least descriptive ofits rich beautiful coloring. The flowers are like all other Bougainvilleas, oerhaps a trifle larger, but in coloring none compare with it in richness and brilliancy. On first opening a brilliant crimson-lake, retaining this color for three or four weeks, after which they gradually pass to a crimson-carmine. In semi-tropical climates, such as Southern California and Florida, the Bougainvilleas make gorgeous climbers for outdoor planting, while in the north they are useful subjects as pot plants for the conservatory or greenhouse. For this purpose they may be trained over a trellis of any shape, or they may be kept cut back or pinched so as to form shapely, bushy plants. 4-inch pot plants, $ each; large plants in 6-inch pots, $ each.
