Mr. Bearup is a man much liked and respectedby all who know him. He is a kind and loving a mechanical engineer and draughtsman he has fewequals, and is rapidly rising in the public estimation. ENDER, JOHN S., lawyer, of Plymouth, wasborn January 26, 1S27, near Carlisle, Cumber-land County, Pennsylvania. His parents, Jacoband Jane ( Dobbs ) Bender, natives of the same:, were of German and Irish descent, respectively,ancestor of Jacob Bender came to America in theyear 1616. Bender spent his childhood inintending the common school and assisting his father,who was a miller, the remainder of the time. Wheneleven years of age he removed with the family toWayne County, Ohio, where he remained five his time, as before, was divided between a littleschooling and a great deal of hard labor. In 1843 ^isfather removed to Bellville, Ohio, where the son at-tended select school four terms. In 1846 the familymoved to Indiana, settling in Oregon, Marshall County,now Starke County. John S. Bender was active in theconstruction of the first school-house in that county,and when it was completed he took charge of the schoolfor three months, receiving for his services board andtwenty dollars per month.
