Indian Knob mountainbalm and habitat. Indian Knob mountainbalm (Eriodictyon altissimum) is a short-lived evergreen shrub that is located in western San Luis Obispo County, California. It can reach heights up to 13 ft. and can be found near the community of Los Osos and in the Indian Knob area southeast of the city of San Luis Obispo. Invasive, nonnative grasses, particularly perennial veldt grass poses the strongest threat to this imperiled plant and its habitat.
