Ring-necked parakeet (Psittacula krameri). Also known as the rose-ringed parakeet, this bird is popular as a pet and has successfully adapted to urban habitats following escapes from captivity. It feeds on buds, fruits, vegetables, nut, berries and seeds. The male has a black ring around his neck, whereas the female (as here) has no neck markings. Photographed in the UK in autumn, perched on a branch of a sessile oak tree (Quercus petraea).
