Why it is called ** Possum Nose " we do not know, but we do know ihat it is a good pumpkin for pies or for cooking as a squash ; hardy and very productive. The form of the fruit is an oblate spheroid, dcpressetl at the bottom and stem ends, and marked with ten or more wide meridional furrows. Itgrows to an enormous size,, three feet or more in diameter, and one hundred to two hundred pounds or more in weight. In 18S5, Mr. Chas. Hewitt, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, won our cash prize with a specimen weighing 2o6"4 pounds. In 1884, our prize was won by Jos. Dunn, Brj'antsville, Ky., with a pumpkin of 226 pounds. This variety originated in France ; round, flattened in shape ; usual size two feet in diameter and 30 to 50 pounds weight, but on well-en- riched soil often attains colossal proportions. In 1884, Mr. D. Barron, of Higbee, Mo., grew a Gray Bou- logne Pumpkin, from our seed, to weigh 139 pounds. The skin is of a grayish-green color.
