The car itself isof the style now known as the semi-convertible, that is with thewindow pane and sash so fastened as to be readily removable, butthe chief point of interest is the seating arrangement, which is aradical departure in this line. As will be noted from the accom-pa:iyit[g engravings, the seats are individual chairs arranged inpairs. These pairs are susceptililc of a number of different move-ments and they can be placed in several different positions. Whenordinary cnis seating arrangement is desired the seats can be. BROOKLYN CAK-CROSS SEATS. turned so as to face in either direction, leaving a wide aisle downthe center. Luring the rush hours when more standing room isneeded, the seats can be swung up against the sides of the car, andmay be turned either to face squarely toward the center or three-quaiiors forward when the car is going in either direction. Withthe ordinary longitudinal seating the passengers are often undulycrowded, and their knees and feet project out into the aisle to theannoyance of other passengers, but with the three-quarters forwardposiiion, fossible with these seats, the feet of the passengers do notproject directly into the aisle, but come more or less under theseat in front, leaving considerably greater aisle room. With thepedestal support there is also more space for packages or grips ontill- fioor.
